Audi models have always been renowned for their safety standards, and they have the accolades to prove it. This is partly thanks to thoughtful frame and chassis design, cutting-edge driver aids, and confident handling dynamics. Recently, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) put several Audi SUVs to the test. Now, with stricter guidelines to pass, seven of the models earned the TOP SAFETY PICK recognition.
Requirements to Pass
With the new regulations, a vehicle must pass more rigorous testing. These include a new "side crash test" and a new nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian requirement for front crash prevention systems. To pass, all vehicles must receive a "Good" rating in all previous crash evaluations. And earn an "Acceptable" or "Good" score in the updated side test.
Additionally, vehicles must also receive an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation. To earn the TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade, a vehicle must achieve a "Good" score in the updated side test. And an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating in both daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests.
Upon testing, seven of Audi's SUVs proved themselves to the updated standards. Five models received the TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating, and two earned the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) accolade. These models include:
