Audi and Navistar are finally revealing more about their new driver-assist system dubbed the C-V2X (Cellular vehicle-to-everything). This technology enables direct communication between a vehicle and anything it may affect or be affected by. The aim is to offer drivers advanced warning in situations far beyond what's available today. Audi has showcased C-V2X uses for school areas, construction zones, and cyclists, and here's a quick overview of its capabilities.

Enhancing Driver Alertness

Audi's collab with Navistar on the C-V2X technology includes developing tools that inform drivers about potential hazards. These include upcoming traffic jams, road work, and more. Audi has recently showcased what this technology can do around stopped school buses or emergency vehicles. Both of which often come to a stop unexpectedly to pick up or drop off individuals.

The new bi-directional technology allows vehicles to exchange signals ten times per second and up to 400 yards away. In testing, the C-V2X allowed school buses or emergency vehicles to send information to nearby cars. Thus alerting drivers of their presence even if they were around a corner or over a hill. This resulted in drivers being better prepared and responding faster to different situations.

The technology isn't exclusive to Audi models either. C-V2X was also installed in school buses. With the system in place, bus drivers used the information to make decisions while the bus was stopped. This resulted in bus drivers being better informed about when to keep their doors shut. Or when to instruct children to remain on the curb.
